“NY State is giving out hundreds of robots as companions for the elderly”

“A new way to address the West’s ‘loneliness epidemic’”?

“NY State is giving out hundreds of robots as companions for the elderly,” says James Vincent in his article on The Verge. Loneliness amongst the elderly has grown to the point where it’s bringing the attention of scientists to come up with any possible solution to change the situation even slightly.

But, is it really a solution? Is it really something that can change the situation for the better?

NYSOFA director Greg Olsen says ElliQ is designed for people aged 75 and older, who have access to Wi-Fi, and are comfortable with tech equipment.

But, how many elderly people do you know that have their hands around such things as Siri, Alexa, or simply use any modern technology comfortably?

Unlike newly created robots that can imitate a companion around an elderly one, Elder Home Share has been dealing with this for over 5 years and successfully fighting loneliness among the older population. Elder Home Share makes sure that your loved ones get not only a great companion to talk to but also an individual that can provide required help around the hours. Moreover, in case of a fall or any other life-threatening situation, companions of Elder Home Share are always around to make sure that all the required actions are taken to keep the life of your loved one safe.

Robots as Companions

In New York state, a new experiment is just beginning, and it is unknown how long it will take to fully adjust and actually be implemented in our lives. Surely, it can have some potential to bring attention to the situation and help work towards changing it for the better, only Elder Home Share is already fighting that battle and getting excellent results. Saoirse Sheridan, the founder of the company, says it's great to see people come up with new innovative ways to tackle loneliness and help people living alone at home. However, in my experience as a founder and a home share companion, there’s nothing like sitting down with a person and having a laugh when combating loneliness.

If you are concerned about an elderly loved one living alone please visit our website Elder Home Share we would love to hear from you. Be sure to visit our home share companion profile page to get an idea of potential matches for your loved one.
