After moving to Cork in September for college, I quickly realised how problematic finding accommodation was going to be. I lived in hostels and hotels for the first few weeks and after a number of unsuccessful house viewings, I was getting close to considering moving home to Galway. I had heard of Elder Home Share a year or so earlier and signed up but as there were very little openings outside of Dublin, it wasn’t an option at the time. When I received an email from Saoirse at Elder Home Share last September to say that there had been an opening in Cork, it honestly felt heaven sent. I met with Rory and his family within a week and moved in soon afterwards.
Since moving in I can say it has been a very successful experience all round, as Rory and I get on great. We watch football together a couple of times a week and we’ll also have dinner together most evenings. It has been so good to come home to a peaceful, relaxed house after a day at college the last few months and I have no doubt that it has had a positive impact on my performance in college too. Most of all, it has been a very rewarding experience; knowing that I can make life for Rory at home a little easier by helping in the ways that I can.
